Chelsea’s Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre is a NYC comedy legend. Located at 26th St near 8th Ave, it was founded by Amy Poehler, Matt Besser, Ian Roberts, and Matt Walsh, who brought their act to NYC from Chicago in 1996. In 1999, the theater opened on West 22nd Street, and moved to its current location in 2003.

The Theatre’s mission is “fostering both an appreciation and education of the arts through affordable and high quality comedic performances and classes,” and to offer “big names for small change.” Robin Williams, Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey are just a few of the comedy legends who have performed at UCB, where most tickets are just $8.

With shows at 8 PM and 11 PM most weeknights, and sometimes a 9:30 performance in between – and late night shows on Friday and Saturday nights - there’s almost always a performance worth your while. One of the “star” performances on the current schedule is “Death By Roo Roo” which is performed each Saturday night at 9 pm and is “an improvised journey into your family’s dysfunction.”

The NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins this Saturday morning at 10:45 a.m., and continues until the early afternoon.

It begins near 44th St., on Fifth Avenue, and continues straight up to 79th St.

The weather will be glorious, with a high of 62, partly cloudy.

The best place to watch the parade is in the mid 40s, along Fifth Avenue. This is near the start of the parade, and away from the madness around St. Patrick’s Cathedral and again near Columbus Circle.

After you’ve had it with parade watching, come to Mustang Sally’s for lunch or dinner. We’re family friendly, and while we’ll have a solid crowd all day, we’ll likely not be hopelessly mobbed, and indeed, as of this moment, we are one of the few Irish restaurants in NYC taking reservations for St. Patrick’s Day.

Madison Square Garden is getting in the Latin mood this month with Latin pop star Romeo hitting the stage for three nights this month. Whether Romeo got you in the mood, or you’re just a fan, get ready for the next big Latin performance to hit the Garden this month when star Ricardo Arjona comes to NYC. Arjona is a 2-time Grammy winner, winning the coveted award in 2007 for Best Latin Pop Album and the 2006 Latin Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal album.

Arjona, who started his music career at age 8 when he first picked up a car, has been called an anomaly in the world of Latin pop, as he first found fame as a protest singer associated with student culture. Born in Guatemala, he ultimately found success when he moved to Buenos Aires, where his non-traditional themes were more readily accepted. The multi-talented artist was also a basketball star in Guatemala, where he played as a member of the national team and, until recently, held the national record for most points scored in a single game with 78.

Epic band Van Halen is back on tour! And they are coming to the Garden for 2 shows, 2/28 and 3/1. Tickets are still available here for what is sure to be a rocking show. This storied band has had many stars come and go – David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar, Gary Cheron and others have been a part of the show intermittently over the years. On February 7, 2012, the band released a new album: A Different Kind of Truth, its 12th album, featuring vocals by Roth, his first album since reuniting with the group in 2006.

The new album has received glowing reviews from the press, with its first single Tattoo quickly climbing the Billboard charts, and reviewers praising the album – USA Today said that it’s the “true kick in the butt that arena rock desperately needs.”

Yes, after their thorough dismantling of the defending champion Green Bay Packers (see highlights here) and squeaking by the San Francisco 49ers in OT in the NFC Championship, the Giants will take on the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, for the second time in four years.
